How it does good
Across cocoa supply chains, things are not happening fairly. In fact, they're downright unethical, and Tony's Chocolonely is not afraid to call it out. Chocolate is enjoyed all around the globe, but the regions producing cocoa are subject to poverty and forced labor due to the demand to keep cocoa purchasing prices as low as possible for big chocolate distributors. Tony's is leading by example to do things differently. They're using 100% traceable beans, paying higher prices for their cocoa, and building strong relationships with their farmers in an effort balance the system. The fight to do good doesn't stop there though. Tony's also uses sustainable practices on their farms to protect the rainforest and improve agricultural ecology.

Tony’s is committed to making the universe of chocolate production fair and equitable for all involved, particularly the farmers and the people working on cocoa farms in West Africa. Their Chocolate Colony is rooted in five sourcing principles: traceable beans, higher prices (they pay a greater premium than the Fair Trade premium), strong farmers, long-term investment (at least five years), and better quality and productivity on the farms. They do incredible work to make incredible chocolate—some of our favorite flavors are white chocolate raspberry, dark milk chocolate + pretzel, and milk chocolate caramel + sea salt.

Hey! It's me, Katie, one of the founders of Hive. I love chocolate-covered pretzels, so when I tasted this Tony's Chocolonely bar, I expected to love it. And even so, this chocolate bar defied my expectations. I would like to have a bar on hand at all times so I can eat a piece (or five) as a lunch or afternoon snack - and believe me, I plan to now that Hive is live. I have loved introducing others to this chocolate bar by forcing them to taste and then fall in love the way that I have. Chocolate tastings have become a favorite dessert-time occasion at our house.

This is my gateway Tony's bar. I love the feeling of snapping off huge chunks! The ratio of pretzel to choco is so harmonious - sometimes, bars have too much or too little pretzel. If you haven't tried Tony's before, it's a similar vibe to those phenom Ritter Sport chocolates, but with more to munch.
