How it does good

Rice production uses around one-third of the planet's annual renewable fresh water, but Lotus Foods supports More Crop Per Drop™;—a smart agricultural practice that protects and restores natural resources such as fresh water, improves incomes and quality of life for farmers, especially women, and reduces climate impact. These practices also cut in half the time that women have to spend transplanting and weeding, lowering their risk for health issues.

Lotus Foods

The Lotus Foods founders first fell in love with black rice while traveling in China. The rice was typically called “tribute rice”, or “longevity rice” because it was reserved for Chinese Emperors to ensure their good health and long life. In 1995, the founders started importing black rice, calling it Forbidden Rice® after the Forbidden City, the Chinese Imperial palace. They also work hard to make sure they employ sustainable practices and treat farmers fairly.
