How it does good

If food waste were measured as a country, it would be the third worst greenhouse gas offender after the U.S. and China. Shameless Pets is doing its part by finding creative, sustainable solutions for misfit and surplus foods like fruits, vegetables, and dairy that would've otherwise become food waste.

Shameless Pets

With surplus and misfit produce at the core of their mission, Shameless Pets is transforming unused ingredients into healthy dog treats. The story starts when co-founder James Bello was working as a corporate food buyer at a giant retailer. He witnessed firsthand the vast amount of food that would go unused in stores every week. James took this problem to someone who really knows food—his food-obsessed puggle, Mina—and he had a eureka moment to turn unwanted produce into things that Mina and her pals would love to eat. Serendipitously, he met co-founder Alex Waite at a startup event who also shared a passion for the environment, loved dogs, and was a food scientist. In October 2018, the pair launched their brand with retailers nationwide.
