Why we love it

Hazelnuts should step aside for a moment while we describe what it's like to have sunflower seed butter instead. Picture it: smooth, creamy waves of dark chocolate slide off your spoon as you scoop into a jar of this sweet, rich spread. We're reaching for thin, lightly salted crackers to go with this one, but you can choose from fruit, pretzel sticks, toast, or even just the spoon.

How it does good

Lending a hand to support human and animal rights initiatives

88 Acres has made a deep commitment to its community and the environment. Based in the heart of inner city Boston, the makers behind these seed butters and bars do all they can to lend their hands in support of human and animal rights initiatives. They're committed to sourcing their ingredients responsibly through their own 9 Step Sourcing Process. And if that weren't enough, they're generating zero food waste through their manufacturing as well.

  • low carbon footprint

88 Acres refuses to cut costs and compromise quality by relying on contract manufacturers. Instead, they built their own allergen-free facility to make and bake their goods. Better still, 88 Acres creates zero food waste by using upcycling and composting at their facilities.
  • responsible sourcing

Safety is priority number one. That's why 88 Acres sources the highest quality ingredients from sustainable farms and suppliers all over the globe. The founders pride themselves on their 9 Step Sourcing Process. That means there's never cross-contamination with any of the top 9 food allergens. And they're sourcing certified organic ingredients as often as possible.
  • supporting key causes

88 Acres champions human rights and hunger initiatives. The company makes regular donations to the NAACP Legal Fund and Black Lives Matter. Plus, 88 Acres provided snacks to over 380,000 students for discounted cost or for free in the last calendar year.
  • Certified Non-GMO

How to use it

Oil separation may occur. Stir well, then drizzle it on fresh cut apples, pears, dates, jicama, or figs.

When you're done...

The jar is curbside recyclable. The lid (and freshness seal) is recyclable through TerraCycle by following our special instructions.

These are general guidelines for broadly-recyclable materials. Check with your local recycler to confirm what they take.

The sunflower seed butter was not what I expected. It is more like a syrup when I was expecting the thickness of almond butter. The taste is good, not too sweet. I use it as a chocolate syrup.

Nice alternative to Nutella

A great substitute for Nutella- not quite the same but close! I can't eat tree nuts so this is a decent alternative.
