Organic Black Heirloom Quinoa
2 reviews

Little known fact: quinoa is an extremely diverse grain. So that same old same old bag you keep buying? Maybe it's time to switch it up. This Bolivian black heirloom variety is rich in taste and nutrients. Because of the humid environment where it's grown, it's also a lot less bitter than the average. You'll love putting the fluffy pearls on your salads, in your veggie burgers, or even mixed into your brownie batter.
Empty quinoa bags can be rinsed and sent to TerraCycle using our special instructions.
These are general guidelines for broadly-recyclable materials. Check with your local recycler to confirm what they take.

Conventional quinoa farming poses a big risk for environmental damage, water contamination, and unfair treatment of farmers. Alter Eco has set out to make a difference in the health food world by putting an end to these damaging practices. Every bag of quinoa they produce is sourced directly from organic, non-GMO farmer cooperatives who go to great lengths to protect our earth. Alter Eco has also committed to compostable, non-toxic wrappers and have been carbon neutral since 2009.
Every single Alter Eco product is sourced directly from small-scale, organic farmers. These farmer-owned cooperatives invest their profits directly into improving the quality of their products and the quality of life in their communities.

Organic Black Quinoa
It is a real pleasure to work with a great product. The quinoa is tinder, and nutty in flavor. I love a rich color. Service was beyond reproach, fast, and easy. Like the earth conscious packaging.

More interesting
I got into Black Quinoa because I had read it has a little more protein in it than white. It also has a little more of a flavor profile and more texture than white which for me is too bland. This is a good quality brand, rinses any residual bitter taste after 3 good water soakings and flushes. After it is cooked I like to flavor it with finely chopped fresh ginger, balsamic vinegar and an infused olive oil. It my “go to” carb because it is a good source of protein and fiber and I am on a low FODMaP diet plan. I like that the brand supports a cooperative in Latin America too, also organic,

This black heirloom quinoa is grown closer to the equator, giving it a sweet essence unlike your average grain. What can you cook with it? The question is: what can't you?
