Organic Rainbow Heirloom Quinoa

Sustainable goodness
Alter Eco has pioneered a full circle approach to eating, farming, and doing business. They're a sustainability-driven food company that inspires others to follow their lead.
Why we love it
One might call quinoa a "rainbow" food. It goes in (and on) so many dishes. This quinoa also happens to be colorful like a rainbow, too. Pearls of white, red, and black create a visual masterpiece on your plate. The taste is also one-of-a-kind. Because the grains are grown in semi-tropical Bolivia, they have a touch of sweetness that most other quinoa varieties do not. That also means they're a touch less bitter than those other guys.

How it does good
Making our favorite foods more favorable to the planet
Conventional quinoa farming poses a big risk for environmental damage, water contamination, and unfair treatment of farmers. Alter Eco has set out to make a difference in the health food world by putting an end to these damaging practices. Every bag of quinoa they produce is sourced directly from organic, non-GMO farmer cooperatives who go to great lengths to protect our earth. Alter Eco has also committed to compostable, non-toxic wrappers and have been carbon neutral since 2009.
-
recyclable packaging
The company has committed to using 100% compostable or recyclable packaging by the end of 2020. As a part of the OSC2 Packaging Collaborative, a leading sustainable packaging innovation, they've been working since 2013 on removing petroleum-based plastic from our landfills, oceans, and planet. -
responsible sourcing
Every single Alter Eco product is sourced directly from small-scale, organic farmers. These farmer-owned cooperatives invest their profits directly into improving the quality of their products and the quality of life in their communities. -
low carbon footprint
Founder Tristan Lecomte pioneered a method of integrating carbon offsetting within the company's own supply chain to improve soil conditions, biodiversity and crop health, all while making them carbon neutral since 2009. -
supporting key causes
Not only does Alter Eco give their employees 3 paid days off a year to support causes of their choice, they also make regular cash and product donations to the organizations their team members are passionate about. These include clean-ups, food services, building green spaces in urban neighborhoods, supporting events for Earth Day and MLK Day, and contributing to Imperfect Produce and SF Recology.
How to use it
Put this rainbow quinoa in everything, but first: follow the boiling instructions on the bag.
When you're done...
Empty quinoa bags can be rinsed and sent to TerraCycle using our special instructions.
These are general guidelines for broadly-recyclable materials. Check with your local recycler to confirm what they take.
