This shampoo may be called “maintain,” but we think that’s mostly because “gorgeous-to-look-at-and-so-fun-to-use-our-hair-has-never-felt-better” didn’t fit on the (plastic-free) packaging.
HiBAR was founded to revolutionize packaging in the beauty industry, and their plant-based ingredients are certified all-natural.
Why we love it
From flat-ironing to updos to that time we dyed it pink, we put our hair through a lot. Say thank you with this prettily pastel bar, built to stand up to product buildup while conveniently standing up in the shower. It's made with moisturizing, shine-enhancing honeyquat and shea butter, and scented with lime, orange, and other beautifully citrusy oils. Rocking color-treated hair? It's also totally safe.
How it does good
Making over the beauty industry for the better
Since plastic packaging came to prominence, we’ve made, used, and disposed of more than 8.3 billion tons of the stuff. Over 90 percent has gone unrecycled, often ending up in landfills, oceans, and animals’ bellies. One of the main culprits? The beauty industry. And then HiBAR came along. Developed by 4 friends with a passion for great smells, healthy hair, and, most importantly, plastic-free products, they've cut out plastic packaging entirely, modelling their haircare products on the bars of soap we’ve been using for years. Also free from sulfates, parabens, and silicones, and packed instead with plant-based ingredients, HiBAR is committed to leading by example with salon-quality, eco-friendly products, made with the earth in mind.
recyclable packagingInstead of plastic, HiBAR’s shampoos and conditioners arrive in packaging that’s adorable and, even better, totally recyclable. It’s made with plant-based ink, so you can even compost it. They’ve also put thought into shipping and wholesale, with biodegradable, compostable, or recyclable packing and pallets, right down to tape and packing peanuts.
responsible sourcingYou’ll never find synthetic preservatives in HiBAR’s products. Instead, they use plant-based, often totally vegan, ingredients, with all-natural essential oils for scent. Their pigments are approved by Cosmos and Ecocert, the gold standard in natural cosmetics.
supporting key causesThey’ve donated shampoos to victims of natural disasters, like the 2020 Oregon fires, and they’re financially supporting small businesses and social justice reform in Minnesota.
Only thing that could make it better is to put it on a rope (à la soap-on-a-rope). Then it could air dry and not have to sit on something where moisture could pool.
This is a wonderful product- feels and smells great, excellent ingredients, works well and I really really love not having all those plastic bottles!
Its so easy to use and our hair is shiny and full. We love that there is not plastic involved. Great product! So happy I found it.
I can't believe it took me this long to try a shampoo bar! It has improved the texture and health of my hair in a matter of days. As someone who is very active, I have to wash my hair on a daily basis. I no longer feel bad shampooing every day because I know this product is gentle on my hair and does not have harsh chemicals. It is easier to conserve than a bottle and I even have more space in my shower! It'll be a bit before I need to restock, but Volumize is up next :)
This stuff is so great Ive even been able to convince my boyfriend to switch over to solid shampoo and conditioner.
