Rooibos Chai is fun to say, but with woody notes and natural sweetness, it’s even better to drink. Powerful cinnamon and zesty cardamom make for a comforting taste of home. Just wait for it to cool (or try to).

Details

Chai translates to "tea," so when you order a "chai tea," you're technically asking for "tea tea." Today, chai is associated with rich spices reminiscent of fireside chats with friends and fragrant dishes cooking on the stove, like peppery allspice, woody cinnamon, and almost-hot cloves (plus many more). Add these to mellow rooibos, and you're in for a caffeine-less treat better than any latte. Rooibos chai is caffeine free, like other rooibos teas.

Ingredients

Verified Fair Labor™ Organic Rooibos, Organic Cloves, Organic Cinnamon, Organic Ginger, Organic Allspice, Organic Nutmeg, Organic Cardamom

How to Use

For a perfect, steamy brew, steep 5-6 minutes. Add milk and honey, or enjoy it on its own. For an indulgent iced version, steep 2 tea bags, allow to cool, and pour over ice.

Recycling

The carton is curbside recyclable. The tea bag is home or industrially compostable. The wrapper is industrially compostable. Find a location near you.

These are general guidelines for broadly-recyclable materials. Check with your local recycler to confirm what they take.

How it does good

Tea-making is hardly as simple (or as soothing) as pouring water into a cup. Deforestation, water shortages, and threats to biodiversity are all results of less ethical tea-based agriculture. Numi, a brother-sister team based in Oakland, is out to change that, with environmental practices focused on making great, flavorful tea while protecting land and employees. They cut out pesticides, fertilizers, and machine picking that impact taste, farmland, and the workers who handle them. They also use practices that sustain ecological harmony and send out their products in compostable bags and wrappers. The word "Numi" refers to an Iraqi drink, symbolic of hospitality and community. True to its name, Numi is introducing new, global tastes and new, globally protective practices with their tea.

Numi

Numi was founded in 1999 in Oakland, California by brother and sister Ahmed Rahim and Reem Hassani with a vision to share the transformative, healing power of tea with the world. They named their company after the steeped dried desert lime they drank in their early childhood in Baghdad, Iraq. The drink symbolizes hospitality and community (numi means “citrus” in Arabic). Creative, conscious change-makers, they have introduced little-known herbs and teas to the United States, while advancing human rights and sustainable causes around the globe.
