Organic Coconut Sugar
5 reviews

Forget diamonds, these stunningly golden, smoky-sweet sugar crystals are our best friends. With a lower-glycemic index than standard table sugar (35, as opposed to 60-65), this coconut sugar is one of those try-it-and-never-go-back kinda things. Nutiva heats honey-tinted coconut sap until its water content evaporates, leaving behind caramel-ly granules a little thinner than brown sugar. What's more, they boast a complex, comforting flavor that can spin any sweet tooth into a grin.

How it does good
Making best practices better for everyone
More often than not, mass production is more interested in making a lot of food than nourishing the environment, community, and individuals food comes from. The result is planetary harm, unfair labor practices, and little benefit to the people in the cogs of the machine. Nutiva isn’t afraid to say there’s a better way. As a corporation, they believe they’re obligated to lead the way forward. In addition to sourcing only organic and non-GMO ingredients, they support regenerative practices, from pesticide-/herbicide-free growing to carbon farming. This includes using only sustainable palm oil, which limits habitat destruction. They also advocate for producer and consumer rights, and food education. Their employees are paid to volunteer at food banks, beach clean-ups, and more.
Nutiva is zero waste, which means they’re not only improving efficiency but cutting back on litter, emissions, and the impact of trash transport. As a California Green Business, they're committed to conserving energy and water, and they encourage biodiversity and native planting among their small, organic farmers.
Learn MoreThrough their 1% Program, Nutiva gives 1% of sales (not profits) to community health and sustainable agriculture initiatives, contributing $5.5 million since 1999. They've also donated an orchard to each of the 31 schools in their California community, and community outreach is literally built into their culture.
Learn MoreThey’re Fair Trade certified, which means they’re ensuring fair wages and on-the-job safety in their facilities and those they source from. From 2014-2016, their farmers received over $450,000 in premiums, making a direct impact in their lives and communities.

not fo rme
i like what this company stands for and i love coconut sugar. but this tastes like burned coconut to me. it's terrible in coffee and that's what i wanted it for. the granulation is good but i won't be using this. i gave it away. i bought this instead of the other brand hive offers, i have tried the other brand before and i like the other brand. wanted to try this, because this company is awesome! i love and use their coconut oil regularly. i don't like this sugar tho.

I’d like it to be more fine-grained
I’d like it to be more fine-grained, but other than that it’s good!

Organic Coconut Sugar
I’ve tried this before and am glad that I was able to buy this through Hive. It’s the right sweetness!

Perfect sugar
I use coconut sugar in my coffee. Great taste. Does not have a coconut flavor and it is not too sweet.

A hit
The fact that it is unrefined was a hit from the start. It's a little spendy but I only us it for tea right now, or a cobbler. Great product.
