Kosher Real Salt

Sustainable goodness
To gather their pristine, unrefined salt, Redmond uses solar-powered, room-and-pillar mines. This helps to lower their carbon footprint and lessen their environmental impact.
Why we love it
Not-so fun fact: some salt has de-clumping agents—or even sugar in them. Redmond Real Salt? It's just plain awesome, unrefined, and uncontaminated salt. Plus, it has quite a magical backstory. The salt deposit in Utah was formed thousands of years ago when a volcano swallowed up part of the sea and sealed it off. It was untouched by humans, air, or any pollutants. And to this day it remains uncontaminated thanks to the room-and-pillar milling practices Redmond uses to extract it. You'll taste a serious difference when you use it to season your favorite meals.

How it does good
Doing more than the table stakes for table salt
It’s no secret that mining of any kind—whether for gold or salt—can be a troublesome feat. It’s important to take a look at these practices and factor them into our buying decisions. Redmond Real Salt is a company we can stand behind. They use room-and-pillar mines as opposed to open pits, helping to lessen the damage done to our earth’s surface, water sources, and biodiversity. Their mines are also solar-powered, which significantly lowers their carbon emissions and energy usage. Beyond better mining practices, Redmond’s non-profit organizes service projects for the underprivileged and underserved.
-
responsible sourcing
Because salt mining can have damaging environmental impacts, Redmond uses gentler room-and-pillar mines, which reduce ground and surface water contamination. -
low carbon footprint
Redmond lowers their carbon footprint by using solar energy. They also purchased a bond that allows the land to be restored for future generations. -
supporting key causes
The Soar Foundation, Redmond's non-profit, organizes service projects like digging water lines in poor communities and donating blood locally.
How to use it
Kosher salt has bigger, flakier salt crystals which are perfect for seasoning as a final touch or first step.
