Life is full of indulgences, but few come close to pasta. There's something about biting into a perfect al dente pasta dish with homemade sauce that fills us with joy (and fills our bellies, too). This penne from Semolina is one of those special pastas that tastes homemade even though it's from a box. Maybe it's the organic ingredients sourced right here in America? Or maybe it's the fact that Semolina hand-crafts each batch? Either way, we're going back for a bowl full.

How it does good

Semolina is dedicated to sustainable farming and manufacturing for their one-of-a-kind pastas. They source organic durum wheat from ethically and environmentally responsible American farms (mostly in Montana and North Dakota) and hand-craft their pastas in Los Angeles. They're also actively seeking to partner with small mills and growers who use regenerative practices. This helps soil recoup between growing seasons so it can sequester more carbon. Off the farm, Semolina keeps their environmental activism strong. They only send a few bags of flour and a cup and a half of dough to the landfill each day. This helps them keep their carbon footprint low.

Semolina Artisanal Pasta

Leah Ferrazzani launched Semolina Artisanal Pasta in October 2014 out of her home kitchen, converting her laundry room into a makeshift pasta dryer using some consumer electronics and a lot of moxie. Now based in Northwest Pasadena, Semolina's pastas are sold all over the country. Semolina’s pastas are proof that great pasta doesn't have to be imported from Italy. They strive to make a product that is simply good, and because it’s made locally, good for the environment and the community. As part of that commitment, they plan to donate a portion of our profits to community organizations that focus on food justice, preservation and education.
