How it does good
Cocoa with compassion
As the first organic, Fair Trade certified chocolate maker in North America, Theo remains committed to pushing the industry forward. Theo believes that organic ingredients are better for people and the planet, and that fair trade practices are essential to make sure that farmers get a living wage. As a company rooted in cocoa, their mission is to create a more compassionate world by responsibly making delicious chocolates for everyone to enjoy.
-
responsible sourcing
Theo sources organic ingredients whenever possible, and prioritizes sourcing from smallholder farms. They purchase cacao directly from farmers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Theo Chocolate is also certified Fair for Life by Ecocert, which certifies ethical trade, fair working conditions, and that the environment is respected across the supply chain. -
low carbon footprint
Theo Chocolate constantly looks for ways to reduce their emissions. For example, they worked with the state of Washington on air quality when they installed a new cocoa roaster. They also choose lower emission shipping methods for ingredients that are internationally shipped. -
supporting key causes
In 2020, Theo Chocolate donated over $300,000 in cash and products to nonprofits working on COVID-19 relief and homelessness. Employees are paid up to 12 hours a year to volunteer in the community.
How to use it

Snap into bite-sized chunks and combine with cookie dough. Add a spoonful of cocoa for double chocolatey goodness. Bake and serve with a glass of fresh, cold milk.
When you're done...
Recycle the paper wrapper in a curbside bin. The lined foil should be thrown away for now, but the brand is working on recyclable solutions.
These are general guidelines for broadly-recyclable materials. Check with your local recycler to confirm what they take.
