For anyone who’s proudly ordered the first flavor on the ice cream menu, tried tipping a full bottle into cookie batter (to varying results), bought sugar cookie body lotion or perfume, or snuck into the pantry simply to smell that sweet, slightly smoky aroma—this no-frills, high-quality, flawlessly aged vanilla is for you.

Vanilla Bean Project was founded to offer direct trade opportunities and full-value pay to woman-owned businesses in Madagascar.

Good news! The glass bottle and metal lid are 100% curbside recyclable. The plastic freshness seal is recyclable through TerraCycle by following our special instructions.

How it does good

Ethical trading, fair wages, quality vanilla

“Vanilla” is often synonymous with simple, neutral, or boring. But the vanilla bean is one of the hardest crops to grow. It only flowers once a year and has to be picked, by hand, right away. Eighty percent of vanilla comes from Madagascar, where its been painstakingly harvested for generations. But, at the same time, almost 80% of the people in the country, vanilla farmers included, are living in poverty. The Vanilla Bean Project set out to change this, with a commitment to buying from small-batch, women-owned makers, breaking the tradition of a few vanilla companies monopolizing the market and selling their extract for high prices the growers don’t see. The result is a high-quality extract that ensures financial security for the farmers, suppliers, and communities it comes from.
