The folks at Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve have a loyal customer base (some may call it a cult following). One of these customers, who happens to be an herbalist, reached out to co-founders Ida and Sam, and asked if they'd create a shampoo using special hair-loving herbs. That's how this little bar was born. It's made with three key herbs: nettle, yuca, and wheatgrass, which are believed to help with hair loss. Mixed in there is hydrating coconut and castor oil for thirsty locks. Every time you step into your shower, you'll feel like you're in a garden overflowing with good-for-you herbs and flowers. How refreshing is that?

Let's get one thing straight before we dive into Chagrin Valley's admirable practices: their #1 goal is to offer top-quality natural skincare for you. How do they do it? How to Use

Wet the bar and lather it in your hands. Massage the suds in your scalp, then work them down to your ends. Wash it out and voila! You're on your way to a good hair day. For straight hair, we recommend conditioning with their vinegar rinse.

Recycling

The cardboard box is both curbside recyclable and home compostable.

Still in disbelief with my amazing results!

I have a thyroid issue along with anemia. So no matter what shampoos I use, I MUST have a conditioner. I go to an organic hair salon for protein and hydration treatments every few months. It lasts a couple of weeks, and then I'm fighting to keep my hair hydrated with the salon's commercial organic shampoos and conditioners.

I decided to buy this shampoo bar for my husband, so we have fewer containers as we travel this summer. (I have a lot of potions to make my hair soft and healthy-looking. Someone has to cut back for the sake of lighter travel.) Part of me wanted to try it first, but I let him be my unwitting test subject. He liked it. I was surprised he tried it, then even more surprised when he commented on it. He's the average guy, and as long as it's this side of a caustic substance, he doesn't care.

That impressed me.

Then, the other morning just before an important meeting, I couldn't resist any longer. I grabbed the Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve Herb Garden Shampoo Bar and went to work.

I can't believe my results. My hair is soft and manageable without using a conditioner. And I was in disbelief my hair didn't do its standard matting from the organic shampoo drying it out. So I opted not to use my organic conditioner. I was test-driving this bar as far as it would take me.

My hair felt and looked amazing all day. When I woke up the following day, I didn't need a comb to fix my hair. Instead, my fingers slid through it, barely encountering a single tangle. Then, I raced to the vanity mirror to see if I was really awake.

My organic-salon shampoo and conditioner leaves the hair on the crown of my head flat. This shampoo bar gave me a little lift and gentle waves. My hair is naturally curly, and, for the past decade, my curls have been either unruly frizz or non-existent. Now, I have soft waves returning. I usually wash my hair twice a week to prevent over-drying. Now, I want to wash it twice a day to watch what happens.

I'll resist, but I think I've found the answer to my hair's health. I've told everyone I've seen lately.

No longer will I dread washing my hair. On the contrary, I can't wait to do it again. Thank you for such a fine and healthy alternative to even costly, not-so-helpful, organic shampoos.

If you are wondering if you should try this, my answer is a resounding yes. You may be as amazed as I am with the results.

Oh, and instead of a carry-on bag filled with hair products, I'm tucking a few Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve Herb Garden Shampoo bars in my bag to use and gift.
