Ingredient Integrity

Tony’s exploitation-free cocoa beans are directly sourced from cooperatives in Ghana and Ivory Coast who practice environmentally-friendly growing methods. Tony's Chocolonely's products do not contain ingredients on Hive's No Good, Dirty Rotten list of banned and watch list ingredients.

Responsible Production

Tony's deliberately partners with the same cocoa processor as other big chocolate companies—Barry Callebaut—to show that it's possible to be fully traceable while working with a large processor. In addition to their social impact, Tony's also addresses their environmental footprint by offsetting their carbon emissions through Justdiggit. Their bars are regularly tested for heavy metals to ensure levels are well below the European Food Safety Authority's threshold.

Clean Packaging

Tony's wraps their bars in fully recyclable materials, like FSC- and Ecolabel-certified paper that is uncoated and made with recycled content. The foil also contains recycled material and is as thin as possible to minimize packaging waste.

Leading Change

Tony's Chocolonely is a committed advocate for human rights and ending slave labor in the entire cocoa industry. Their open-source cocoa sourcing initiative, Tony's Open Chain, helps chocolate brands transform their cocoa supply chains and become sustainability frontrunners.

How it does good

Across cocoa supply chains, things are not happening fairly. In fact, they're downright unethical, and Tony's Chocolonely is not afraid to call it out. Chocolate is enjoyed all around the globe, but the regions producing cocoa are subject to poverty and forced labor due to the demand to keep cocoa purchasing prices as low as possible for big chocolate distributors. Tony's is leading by example to do things differently. They're using 100% traceable beans, paying higher prices for their cocoa, and building strong relationships with their farmers in an effort balance the system. The fight to do good doesn't stop there though. Tony's also uses sustainable practices on their farms to protect the rainforest and improve agricultural ecology.

Tony's Chocolonely

Tony’s is committed to making the universe of chocolate production fair and equitable for all involved, particularly the farmers and the people working on cocoa farms in West Africa. Their Chocolate Colony is rooted in five sourcing principles: traceable beans, higher prices (they pay a greater premium than the Fair Trade premium), strong farmers, long-term investment (at least five years), and better quality and productivity on the farms. They do incredible work to make incredible chocolate—some of our favorite flavors are white chocolate raspberry, dark milk chocolate + pretzel, and milk chocolate caramel + sea salt.
