Buildable Meal Ideas—Hive Style

Today we’ve got some inspiration for your next breakfast, lunch, or dinner. By starting with these bases, you can easily make your meals as intricate or as simple as you’d like. It’s really up to you. It’s like a choose-your-own-adventure deal, but at the end you get food. Here’s the rundown.

Early Make-ahead Morning Mix

So this one starts simple (and the night before). Because a make-ahead breakfast can help you save time in the morning for a few extra things done (or a few extra minutes of sleep). Grab some oats. Add some chia seeds. Get a little dairy-free milk into the mix. Then just follow your favorite recipe for overnight oats. We like cocoa and maple sugar in ours. Then we add some fresh berries in the morning.

Mid-day Ramen Rush

If your lunch is lacking inspiration, we’re here to help. Let’s start by stating the obvious—ramen makes a great lunch. And our new go-to noodles are these black, Forbidden Rice ramen noodles. They’re a noticeable upgrade from the standard instant packs you find at the grocery store.

You can cook these dark, delicious noodles in water or some bone broth for added flavor. But from there, we’re not going to cramp your ramen style. One of the best things about this dish is that there are countless incredible recipes available.

So start gathering your extra ingredients. Get the spices you love, and some veggies (chives add great color and flavor). We’ll leave it up to you whether or not you want to add a protein (ps. if you’re feeling your inner chef, please send us your favorite add-ins). Or if you’re feeling adventurous, reach for the cheese and make Roy Choi’s recipe. Take your pick, we’re sure it’ll be rich, delicious, and ready quick.

Mac + Vegan Cheese + Your Favorites

Looking for a new take on an old favorite? Then look right this way. This quick meal is super easy to give your own signature flavor, whatever it is. Just start with the basics, the pasta shape you love most (gluten optional, of course) and this delicious, tangy vegan cheese sauce. Mmm. That’s right it comes in a smoky barbecue, a classic, or spicy.

If you prefer to spice it your own way, we always recommend Black Urfa Chili, but pretty much any Burlap & Barrel spice won’t steer you wrong. Just don’t forget to season it! (Cheese sauce is not a seasoning, sorry to say.)

Lastly, grab the fresh stuff. You can keep things vegan and reach for spinach, broccoli, or some thinly sliced potatoes or you can bring the meat while still skipping dairy. We’re not judging either way.

There you have it—a great foundation for any meal. Make your own recipes and tag us on Instagram. We’d love to see them.
