Dear Hivers,
It’s hard to believe our sustainable grocery store turns two years old today. In these two trips around the sun, a lot has changed - sometimes at an almost roaring pace. But one thing remains constant, and that is our desire to leave this world a better place than we found it.
I won’t be the first to tell you that launching and nurturing a company is hard, and harder still with things like a “global pandemic” and “looming recession” sprinkled in. And I know that for many of you, no matter your circumstance, the word “hard” does a good job of describing the last two years for you. It can feel so easy to dwell in the hard. But what we focus on, we create more of. And at Hive, we’re all about creating more good.
We have a practice at Hive that we call The Goldies. That’s how we celebrate wins big and small - for our planet, for our company, and for each other. And so on this day, our second birthday, I want to celebrate a few goldies for all of you.
To our shoppers: A goldie for making a real, tangible impact through your grocery habits. You are the reason we get up every day: your unwavering belief in the exponential power of your choices (and your dollars) to create change is inspiring.
And you’ve done just that.
Over the last two years, you’ve contributed to:
- Over 1 million sustainable swaps made – that’s ONE MILLION fewer purchases of items that aren’t certified for sustainability
- Nearly 300 tons of carbon offset
- Over 100,000 pieces of plastic diverted from the landfill

To our brands: A goldie for continuing to chart new paths in sustainability. We are over 310 brands strong today. With all of you in our community, the future looks brighter. You inspire us to keep going.
To our team: A goldie for persistence, excellence, and unwavering belief in better. To celebrate our birthday, I asked the team to share what makes us US. And the theme that came through over and over again was tenacity in the face of challenge. A start-up is a wild ride, but you all make it worth it. Your talents are immeasurable, and your hearts are tremendous.
And to the Hive: A goldie for our brand new B-Corp Certification. We’re thrilled to announce that we recently completed our B Corp Certification. The minimum score to get certified is 80, and the median score for regular companies is 50. Well, we blew it out of the water with a score of 102.4. We’re so proud of what we’ve done and can’t wait to keep growing and improving together.
