April 22 marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement back in 1970. For more than half a century, this day has provided a voice and a platform for emerging environmental causes, and put sustainability front and center. At least for one day. The date itself, April 22, was chosen to encourage the most student participation. It lands squarely between Spring Break and Final Exams. Today, Earth Day is recognized as the largest secular observance in the world, with more than a billion people choosing this day to take action for the better. And we’re right there with them.
The Earth Month Challenge: Get to Better, Together
At Hive, we believe that things can change for the better for our planet. And that making small, conscious choices to improve what we buy and how we handle our trash can make a big difference. So each week this month, we’re going to highlight, examine, and raise a challenge around a hot topic in the sustainability space. Along the way, you’ll get the chance to participate and share with us the changes you’ve made and the things you’ve learned.
Progress Over Perfection
Progress is important. And we love to see it in every form. To us, the biggest thing is continuous work toward a better, more sustainable planet, and “perfect practice” shouldn’t get in the way of that. So instead of holding ourselves to a “perfect” standard, we make sure that sustainable living is practical and actionable for all of it. It doesn’t need to come with radical overnight changes or deprivation. It can be learning, improving, and trying a little harder every day.
