Harvested later in the season, Second Flush is the most commonly available variety of Darjeeling Tea. The longer growing season gives it a stronger, more robust flavor (and more caffeine!), allowing it to hold its own to a splash of your milk of choice.

Details

Darjeeling tea has a floral taste all to itself, which comes from the unique terroir of the region of the Himalayas where it grows. While not as robust as the teas grown in Assam, this certified organic and biodynamic Darjeeling is an excellent pick-me-up any time of day.

Ingredients

Organic Darjeeling Second Flush Black Tea

How to Use

An excellent choice to start your day or help beat a mid-afternoon slump, the secret of this tea is that it is excellent cold. Brew it for five minutes, strain the leaves, and then pop it in the fridge to chill. Add orange slices, and some honey, and you've got a unique iced tea for the summer months (or when you're dreaming of those hot summer nights in the middle of winter).

Good news! This packaging is industrially compostable. Find a composter near you at www.findacomposter.com. Otherwise, the bag should be placed in the garbage bin.

How it does good

There's a big problem with our little tea bags. While tea bags can be a convenient option for tea time, most of them are made with plastic and nylon-based fibers, which in turn contributes to our world's massive waste problem. This is why Alaya is committed to the freshest loose leaf teas, ordered seasonally and in small batches. Picked fresh and sent in small batches, their loose leaf teas celebrate simple and pure ingredients, free of added flavorings, fragrances, and preservatives. They directly source all of their teas and herbals from organic, biodynamic, and regenerative farms that have additional certifications on top of USDA organic: Demeter Certified Biodynamic for their tea estates and Regenerative Organic Certified for their herbals.

Alaya Tea

Alaya Tea is an Indian women-owned loose leaf tea company that sources organic and biodynamic teas from planet-friendly farms in India. Their name comes from "Himalaya," a region that grows some of the finest teas in the world.

After growing up on a daily ritual of drinking chai, traveling in the Himalayan region, and visiting small farmers and tea estates, co-founders Esha Chhabra and Smita Satiani wanted to build a company that would respect these communities and address the environmental challenges of agriculture.

Today, Alaya Tea’s mission is to invest in Indian farmers who are pioneering the organic and regenerative movement, celebrate women that are the backbone of the tea industry, and elevate tea-drinking culture in the United States.
