Ingredient Integrity

Spice supply chains are historically opaque and hard to trace. By working directly with the farmers, Burlap & Barrel stands behind their product and growing practices. Burlap & Barrel's products do not contain ingredients on Hive's No Good, Dirty Rotten list of banned and watch list ingredients.

Low Carbon Footprint

Responsible production is written into Burlap & Barrel's articles of incorporation, which specify "connecting farmers to high-value markets, helping them access a larger share of the product value chain, and establishing long-term, mutually-beneficial trade relationships." They pay 2-10x commodity prices, enabling their farmers to expand their businesses. Plus, a sample from every lot of every spice is tested by accredited 3rd-party laboratory, for microbiological pathogens and vectors, including E. coli, Salmonella, total/aerobic plate count, and yeast & mold. If necessary, they sterilize with steam sterilization or an ETO treatment. All of their spices exceed the safety requirements from the FDA and State of California. Burlap & Barrel test some of their products for heavy metals and pesticide residues.

Recyclable Packaging

Burlap & Barrel's packaging is zero waste: every jar is fully recyclable, as are their gift boxes.
