How it does good
Sub-Saharan Africa is the poorest region on Earth, with over 70% of the population living in rural areas that are entirely dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. NGO's and foreign governments pour money into Africa in an attempt to alleviate this poverty, but rural farmers often only sell a small portion of their harvest at below market prices. Mavuno Harvest was founded to provide farmers with economic opportunities while also solving the issue of wasted harvests. On a mission to increase farmers' incomes by purchasing the fruit they were unable to sell, Mavuno Harvest ensures that they receive 100% of profits for their harvests vs. the previous 30-35%. And this is all done through Direct Trade.
How to Use
Recycling
These are general guidelines for broadly-recyclable materials. Check with your local recycler to confirm what they take.
Mavuno Harvest
Mavuno Harvest looks out for the small family farms in sub-Saharan Africa while bringing organic dried fruits to you. While serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in a tiny village in Kenya called Miti Mingi, founder Phil Hughes wanted to find a way that provided jobs and economic opportunity for rural farmers and solved the issue of harvests that they don't sell. By drying fruits that would have otherwise gone to waste, Mavuno Harvest opens new markets, creates jobs for the local community, and extends the prosperity of the food supply.
