How it does good
Since plastic packaging came to prominence, we've made, used, and disposed of more than 8.3 billion tons of the stuff. Over 90 percent has gone unrecycled, often ending up in landfills, oceans, and animals' bellies. One of the main culprits? The beauty industry. And then HiBAR came along. Developed by 4 friends with a passion for great smells, healthy hair, and, most importantly, plastic-free products, they've cut out plastic packaging entirely, modeling their haircare products on the bars of soap we've been using for years. Also free from sulfates, parabens, and silicones, and packed instead with plant-based ingredients, HiBAR is committed to leading by example with salon-quality, eco-friendly products, made with the earth in mind.

A few years back, four friends got talking one night and realized they’d all been working separately on the same project: getting rid of plastic in the bathroom. So with that in mind, they officially banded together to re-engineer how people wash and care for their hair. I have been looking for a curl-friendly, plastic-free alternative for my shampoo and conditioner and saw on Hi-Bar's website that they are curly-girl method approved. For reference, I have 3A curls, and I felt like they were well-moisturized but didn't hold up as well with frizz throughout the day. Definitely need some additional products to help control frizz. Would love if Hive had some as I really struggle to find ways to take care of my hair without the many, many plastic bottles of product piling up. (Curls are high-maintenance!) Pros: Plastic-free, environmentally-friendly, moisturizing without weighing my curls down, the bars themselves last forever (I swear I have been using the same one for weeks and it hasn't shrunk) Cons: doesn't keep my curls looking nice all day, when I first got it, I couldn't remember which bar was shampoo and which one was conditioner (the colors are different (one a more solid, darker blue and the other more of a light blue swirl) but easy to forget when trying a product for the first time.

Yea, years..... I’ve been trying different shampoo bars for YEARS and they all left my hair feeling like straw and my head itchy due to buildup. This bar is fantastic. I’ve used it 3 times in one week and my hair feels so light weight. I haven’t tried the conditioner bar yet, still using redken smooth conditioner due to wanting to try the shampoo bar first. I’m totally going to try the conditioner now. But, if you are still wondering if this bar will really work. It does. Great ingredients, great packaging and a very nice light smell. Love it

Moisture Shampoo
The shape is pleasing to look at, though its difficult to lather with the odd shape. My hair feels moisturized and clean with a fresh scent.

Fair warning to those concerned about thinning hair. This shampoo will dry out your hair to the point of breaking off and thinning out.
