Why we love it

From chlorine to mercury to that weird wet-dog smell, the water from our faucets isn’t always, well, drinkable. Thankfully, we can fill this pitcher, let the eco-friendly coconut shell carbon and charcoal filter do its thing, then enjoy ten cups of clean-tasting water between refills. Built from BPA-free plastic and a bamboo handle, it makes hydration functional and totally gorgeous.

How it does good

Long-lasting products for a long-lasting earth

From single-use bags to scrubbers that are sold as reusable but can’t stand up to dirt, non-recyclable products with short lifespans are made to end up in landfills. Meanwhile, ingredients like triclosan, common in soaps and sponges, are registered with the EPA as literal pesticides. Clearly, cleaning products aren’t all that clean. That’s where Soma comes in. Their products say goodbye to coatings, dyes, plastics, and chemicals, and hello to durable designs that actually last. By choosing plant-based and alternative materials, they keep chemicals out and limit their carbon footprint.

  • low carbon footprint

Soma is committed to using renewable materials that can be made without a lot of energy. By sourcing from the same locations where they base their factories, they cut down on transport. They help customers curb their carbon footprints with long-lasting products that are replacable, compostable, and recyclable.
  • responsible sourcing

As a B-Corp, Soma meets the highest standards of transparency. They select producers and manufacturers that follow sustainable, economical, and eco-friendly practices, and they make an effort to oversee each part of their products' lifecycles, from loofah farms to distribution.
  • supporting key causes

On top of everything they’re doing in their own company, they have an eye on charity as well, donating to community-owned clean water initiatives in developing nations.

How to use it

To begin using, remove the pitcher lid and take out the filter bag. Soak your filter for 15 minutes, then rinse it 2-3 times with fresh water, insert it into the bottom of the pitcher reservoir basin, snap it into place, and replace the lid.

When you're done...

The laminated outer packaging should be thrown away for now, but Soma is working on recyclable options.

These are general guidelines for broadly-recyclable materials. Check with your local recycler to confirm what they take.

Came for the aesthetic, stayed for the water.

It’s beautiful and elevates the water filter pitcher market. It’s challenging to tell how full one should attempt to fill the pitcher. The spout lid also tends to catch a bit when pouring, which can cause a small, but noticable splash initially. But these are minor things, easily overlooked by the many positives this product offers versus others on the market. Plus the environmental purposefulness makes this a clear choice.

Worth the splurge

Brenda here from the Hive team! I bought this to replace a Brita pitcher, and not only is it much more attractive, I can honestly notice an improved flavor, the water is crisper and tastes better. It holds more water as well. Definitely worth the upgrade.
