Jacobsen Salt Co.

They say a taco is only as good as its seasoning. Who's they? Don't worry about that. Just trust us, this Jacobsen's seasoning will make your taco night even better.

Sustainable goodness

Jacobsen harvests their salt in the Pacific Northwest to ensure the highest quality. Their salt harvesting process filters out pollutants and microplastics.

Why we love it

Imagine fresh shredded lettuce, soft cojita cheese, creamy guacamole, and perfectly seasoned beef all set out on our table beside a stack of warm, corn tortillas. Or maybe you're more of a pork taco person. Or chicken. Whatever you choose, season it with this Jacobsen blend.

How it does good

The "salt of the earth" that's good for the earth, too

Sea salt comes from water, which means there are a lot of environmental elements to consider with it. Jacobsen tested water from over 25 locations before settling on the Netarts Bay oyster beds they now use. The oysters filter the sea water, creating a high salinity and low turbidity while filtering out any pollutants. Jacobsen also looks for ways to give back, both through their suppliers and the community. They use direct trade with Oregon seaweed farmers and work with brands who share their mission.

  • responsible sourcing

In addition to the Oregon seaweed farmers who help produce their furikak blend, they also use local rosemary farmers. Jacobsen has partnered with Burlap & Barrel and Diaspora to bring fair trade far beyond their own ingredients.
  • supporting key causes

Jacobsen Salt Co. has set their focus on childhood hunger causes. Each year, Ben Jacobsen participates in Chef's Cycle to raise money for the No Kid Hungry foundation. The company also donates products throughout the year to foundations looking to end food insecurity and childhood hunger. Finally, they've created the Jacobsen Co. Hive Program to source, deliver, and install bees and beehives while offering educational classes and consulting.
  • recyclable packaging

Currently, most Jacobsen packaging is recyclable. They use glass and recyclable materials whenever they can, and they're looking to make plastic free alternatives for all packaging.
  • low carbon footprint

Jacobsen is continually refining their processes to lower their carbon footprint. Right now, they're using gas in their process, but they've invested in new equipment to decrease their natural gas usage by nearly 50%.

How to use it

Obviously, taco seasoning is for tacos. But what about enchiladas? Or taco pie? Or a creamy layered dip? The options go on and on.

When you're done...

Nostalgia in a jar

Hi Hive! It's Kate from the Merch team. When I was growing up, we had a lot of taco dinners out of that familiar yellow box. Jacobsen has managed to home in on the flavors I remember without adding any of the junk and, as with everything they do, taking the taco to the next level. If you're interested in an insider tip, consider adding a bag of Pipsnacks' Corn Chips to your cart and eating your Taco Tuesday dinner out of the bag. You'll thank me later, I promise.
