Why we love it

Sometimes, a light sprinkling of salt is all you need to bring out the natural flavors of a rich nut like a cashew. This bagful is crunchy, yet somehow slightly creamy as you bite though. Since they're already salty, we think they go well with something sweet. Like chocolate chips or a bag of kettle corn. But if you're a diehard salt fan, you may want to add them to a party mix with chips, crackers, and pretzels.

How it does good

The best for all, inside and out

Sunshine Nut Co is revolutionizing the nut industry. They're the only African cashew brand to centralize their supply chain—growing, shelling, and packaging locally. Most brands grow nuts in Africa, but roast and package them elsewhere. The Sunshine Nut Co approach minimizes their carbon footprint while boosting the economy of Mozambique. They've also created the Sunshine Approach Foundation, which works with the local government to create jobs, fund shelters, and provide education and childcare.

  • responsible sourcing

Sunshine Nut Co is the only cashew company to grow, harvest, and package their products locally in Mozambique. They ensure that farmers and shellers earn fair wages in a safe working environment.
  • supporting key causes

"Sunshine Nut Co creates ethical, local employment for local Mozambiquans. They've created jobs for over 1,000 shellers and purchase their harvests at a fair price from 50,000 cashew farmers. As if that wasn't enough, they also fund charities across housing, education, and childcare throughout Mozambique. "
  • low carbon footprint

Typically cashews are harvested in Africa, then routed for processing in India or Vietman before being sent to the USA to be sold. That's a huge carbon footprint. By creating a local supply chain within Mozambique, Sunshine Nut reduced their emissions drastically all while supporting the local community.

Don Larson spent decades of his first act at Hershey’s, where he sourced cocoa for the chocolate giant and was constantly confronted by the extreme poverty of the regions in which he worked. Fast forward to 2011, when Don and his wife moved to Mozambique to fulfill a new dream: creating lasting economic change by building food production factories. Sunshine Nut Co. employs primarily adult orphans and has developed extensive relationships with orphanages and other community organizations in-country, donating 90% of their profits to these partners. Not only are they creating employment opportunities, but Sunshine Nut Co has also created Sunshine Houses where they create family units by matching windows with orphaned children.
