Beyond Good tests for the presence of heavy metals in all of their bars annually. While all chocolate has as naturally occurring levels of cadmium and lead, they are at levels not harmful for human consumption. All of Their products are in compliance with strict quality and safety requirements of the U.S. FDA and California’s Proposition 65.

The typical chocolate supply chain has anywhere from 3-5 middlemen sitting between the cocoa farmer and the chocolate maker. That doesn't work for farmers and it doesn't work for Beyond Good. So they put their money where their mouth is. They built a factory in Madagascar as close as possible to their cocoa farmers.
