Hive Five™ Certified
No need to guess what's in your food or how it was made. Our experts vet every product for ingredient integrity, responsible sourcing, and great taste using our own criteria called the Hive Five.
Ingredient
Integrity
Certified by SMETA for ethical production practices, Ethel's also looks for the same high environmental and social standards in their ingredient suppliers. Their certified gluten-free facility ensures their baked good can be enjoyed by all without compromising on quality or flavor. Ethel's' products do not contain ingredients on Hive's No Good, Dirty Rotten list of banned and watch list ingredients.
Responsible Production
Ethel's is pursuing a plastic neutral program, renewable energy credits, and carbon offsets in order to minimize their environmental impacts. Ethel's tests their products for allergens and their suppliers test for heavy metals, pesticide residues, and mycotoxins.
Clean Packaging
Ethel's uses post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in their baked good containers, which are also curbside recyclable. For materials that can't be traditionally recycled, they are adding TerraCycle's recycling services.

Goldie
How it does goodInspired by her eponymous grandmother, the founder of Ethel's Baking Co. wanted to create gluten-free baked goods that can be enjoyed by all, without sacrificing taste. Every bar is still made by hand, and in compliance with SMETA's high social standards. And like Ethel, Ethel's Baking Co. continues to show love through food by donating products to local Detroit food pantries.

Ethel's
Jill Bommarito, the force behind Ethel's Baking Co., embarked on a mission inspired by her grandmother, Ethel's, spirit. Fueled by a family struggle with Celiac Disease, Jill set out to transform the landscape of gluten-free desserts. After years of disappointment with bland options, she made it her mission to craft irresistibly delicious treats with simple, pure ingredients. The result? Ethel's Baking Co., the Original Dessert Bar Company, spreading joy with gluten-free goodness since 2011. Collaborating with daughter Lily, Ethel's commitment extends beyond taste—powered by wind energy and actively recovering plastic from nature. Join us in savoring the legacy of Grandma Ethel—one delectable, eco-friendly bite at a time.
