Plant-Based Scrubber Sponge
4 reviews

This scrubbing sponge strikes the perfect balance, if you ask us. It's super strong on sticky stuff, and nice and soft on all things non-sticky. It's great to keep in the kitchen for your plates that have just a little bit of stuff left on them or your counters after you spend the day baking. But the best part? It works as a shower scrubber, too. That's right, it's gentle enough to exfoliate your skin (instead of just your dishes).
Good news! The paper packaging and sponge are 100% home compostable, and the bag is industrially compostable. Alternatively, the paper packaging is curbside recyclable.
These are general guidelines for broadly-recyclable materials. Check with your local recycler to confirm what they take.

How it does good
Wiping out BPA and plastic waste
Research shows that, when it comes to bacteria, kitchen sponges are the germiest things in our houses, even dirtier than toilets. It’s no wonder that trillions of sponges are tossed every year, but, when they’re made of plastic and end up in landfills, this can be a big problem for the environment. Inspired to change her life by a medical diagnosis and the revelation that women with PCOS have greater amounts of BPA in their bodies, Sqwishful’s founder aspires toward helping others live their lives plastic-free. Sqwishful sponges are made from plant ingredients, not plastic, and they’re compressed and compostable for a small carbon footprint. They also use renewable resources and partner with suppliers using alternative energy sources.
You can trace Sqwishful’s sponges to sustainably-grown wood pulp from the Pacific Northwest. They source from partners committed to recycling waste and utilizing hydroelectric power.
Learn MoreSqwishful partners with producers and manufacturers who offset their carbon production by planting trees. Their dedication to recyclable, compostable products and packaging keeps waste out of landfills, and the sustainable practices used by their partners are better for long-term plant growth.
Learn MoreBoth their plastic-free, Kraft paper packaging and plant-based sponges are home compostable (just cut the sponge up, and add it to your compost). You can also curbside recycle the wrapper, if you like.

Solid Scrubber
Hey Hive! Katie from the merch team here. This sponge won't replace your steel wool, but it will replace your plastic riddled scrubby sponges (did you know there's plastic in most sponges... and that plastic goes down the drain and can pollute our oceans and waterways... what?!). It's good at getting food off of plates and bowls AND you can even get two - one for the kitchen and one for the shower. When I'm done with the dishes, I've been hanging mine to dry on a bottle of soap. Easy!
