Why we love it

You’ve never had a bar like this. Taos spends years on each of their recipes because they love making quality food, and if we had to guess, that love would taste just like fragrant coconut sugar and smoky vanilla bean. Mild almonds and dense chia seeds are hand-mixed to maintain their texture, then baked to lock in that toasted coconut taste. It’s got crunch, it’s got sweet, and it’s our new best friend.

How it does good

A small-town business making a big impact

Taos Bakes believes that making a positive impact is worth doing simply because it’s the right thing to do. In addition to sourcing from local producers to support their community’s economy, they closely monitor their supply chain and their facilities to ensure environmental practices, like sustainable irrigation, natural fertilizer use, and a solar-powered kitchen. Their bars are branded with illustrations of customers, and it’s these people they have in mind when working to support the lives and livelihoods of New Mexico, the low-income Village of Questa where they’re based, and the earth we all share. On top of that, they’re crafting unique baked products without GMOs that are good for soil but don’t taste like it.

    After the closure of a local mine damaged their town’s economy, Taos worked to revitalize things with full-time manufacturing jobs paying a living wage. They get their nuts and coffee from roasters right in New Mexico, and source honey from Colorado.

    Taos Bakes’ kitchen is 100% solar-powered, and the only non-solar power used in their manufacturing facility is the gas they need to regulate their ovens. By sourcing as many local ingredients as they can, they limit the emissions associated with shipping and transport.

    As a part of their effort to do right by the environment, they give a portion of proceeds to the National Parks Foundation. They also partner with food banks in their community and the New Mexico Department of Education to donate products.
