How it does good
Food might not be created equal, but it isn't distributed equally either. Communities and families all over the U.S. are unable to access the nutrients and high-quality ingredients they need due to limitations on budgets, free time, food education, and outdoor space. A Dozen Cousins knows the risks associated with these issues, including diabetes and diet-related illnesses, and they believe good, healthy food should be available to all people, regardless of location or income level. By offering plant-based, non-GMO ingredients at a lower price point, they're making food more affordable and easier to find. By making traditional Black- and Latino-inspired products, they're bringing African, Spanish, and Indigenous dishes to the forefront.

Growing up, founder Ibraheem Basir's kitchen was a melting pot of Creole, Caribbean, and Latin American cooking. As he got older and learned the importance of eating naturally, he hated that it was so hard to find convenient foods that were both healthy and authentic. He started A Dozen Cousins, inspired by his daughter and her 11 cousins, so that it would be easier to enjoy authentic cultural recipes made with wholesome ingredients. Today, A Dozen Cousins is on a mission to eliminate socioeconomic health disparities in the US.

Pretty good, a little dry
Convenient and it was nice to have it pre-seasoned and ready to go. I was expecting a tad more flavor to the beans, and the consistency straight out of the pouch was a little dry (and got dryer when cooked). Nothing a little salsa couldn't fix!
