Big Spoon Roasters doesn't add artificial flavors, preservatives or stabilizers like Palm Oil to their nut butters, so you know each jar is full of only the ingredients you expect. They know every ingredient producer personally and seek partners who are sourcing and growing responsibly, like low-water, Bee-Friendly Almonds and Fair Labor certified cashews. They're so proud of these partners they put them right on their website and boast about their individual standards. Plus, everything is Non-GMO Project Verified and most ingredients are also organic. Big Spoon Roasters' products do not contain ingredients on Hive's No Good, Dirty Rotten list of banned and watch list ingredients.
Big Spoon Roasters produce all of their nut butters in their own North Carolina production facility, which is a cruelty-free workplace and a certified Living Wage workplace. They've calculated their environmental footprint and are working toward zero-waste operations.
Big Spoon Roasters' nut butter packaging is zero waste: every jar is fully recyclable, and so are the bar boxes. Plus, the labels are printed with non-toxic ink.
Big Spoon Roasters 'upcycles' any leftover nut butters into their Community Blend, which is jarred, labeled and donated to local 501 C-3 charities and hunger relief organizations like PORCH Durham, Carrboro and Hillsborough, OCIM Food Pantry, Marcus Harris Foundation, FEED Durham, and TABLE NC.

Mark Overbay, the founder, was inspired to create his nut butters after spending time in Zimbabwe. There, he learned to honor simple ingredients and bring care into everything he makes. By using trusted, transparent farms and producers that share their philosophy, Big Spoon makes it clear that their relationships with suppliers are honest and long-lasting. Doing this means both the farmers and Big Spoon can help each other by collectively growing the demand for higher quality, sustainable agriculture. Today, Big Spoon makes their delicious nut butters in Hillsborough, NC. They also work with Bee Friendly Certified almond growers in California along with domestic pecan farmers in Georgia, ginger farmers in Fiji, sorghum farmers in Tennessee, and more partners that ensure freshness, flavor, and quality.
